Parris Glendening served as Governor of Maryland from 1995-2003. During his two terms as governor, he was a strong advocate for environmental issues. The overdevelopment of rural areas prompted him to focus on environmental stewardship. He is also recognized nationally for his pioneering Smart Growth Anti Sprawl Initiative. Governor Glendening is currently the President of the Smart Growth Leadership Institute.
