PaddleQuest: Guide to Southern Maryland Canoe and Kayak Trails

PaddleQuest is in development. Forgive errors or omissions. Contribute to improve.

Welcome to the PaddleQuest website, the guide to canoe and kayak trails of Southern Maryland. This site contains trip descriptions for bodies of water in St. Mary’s, Charles, and Calvert counties.

We welcome contributions from interested parties, in the form of new trip descriptions or suggestions for additions or changes to existing trip reports.

Site Managers: Lynn Erwin and Robert Elwood

OVERVIEW
The map below is divided into the principle watersheds of Southern Maryland: The Upper Potomac, the Lower Potomac, the Eastern Shore of the Patuxent River, the Western Shore of the Patuxent, the Wicomico River, the St. Mary’s River, and the Bay. Clicking on one of these zones will take you to a more detailed map of that region marked with the locations of individual paddle trips.

Each trip description contains launch site information, trip length, notable natural or historical features to be found in the area, and any other information the author deems of interest.

If you wish to contribute a new trip report, or make additions or corrections to an existing trip, please see the CONTACT US page of this site.

Lush CanalDISCLAIMERS
This site does not address the basics of paddling technique or safety. This site does not purport to be an exhaustive resource for every aspect of a given location or route. The goal is to apprise paddlers where they might find trips of interest. The individual paddler is, in every respect, responsible for their own well-being.

Most of the trips describe here originate on public property. If a launch site is listed as originating on private property, it is the reader’s responsibility and duty to contact the property owners before attempting to launch. In Maryland, all shoreline below the mean high tide is public property. This fact is not necessarily recognized or accepted by all waterfront landowners. We would hope that all paddlers will make every effort to maintain respectful and cordial relations with waterfront property owners who may or may not be aware of the limits of their domains.
